About
Welcome to Train4Life.Live!
Welcome! I am Rusty Warren. Thank you for visiting my website.
I started my exercise journey a long time ago. When I was 12 years old, I talked my father into getting me a set of York barbells for my thirteenth birthday. That was in 1958. I have been exercising regularly ever since. I have also been learning about the benefits of exercise all those years. Now, I am enjoying life to the fullest. I play with my grandchild, hike with my kids, play golf with my friends and, of course, I exercise every day.
So why did I create the Train4Life.live website?
For me, it is personal. Both my parents were chronic smokers. Neither was overweight but neither did they have a regular form of exercise. After having a minor stroke, my mother died from cancer at age 69. About the same time my father had a “come to Jesus” talk with his doctor. The doctor told my father to stop smoking and take up some form of exercise or he would not live to meet his grandchildren. My father quit smoking immediately and started walking. He walked every day, sometimes over 3 miles. One day, while he was mowing the lawn with a push mower, he stepped backward and lost his balance. He fell down on the sidewalk and broke his hip. He was taken to the hospital where he developed pneumonia from which he didn’t recover. He was 82 when he died. He got an extra 13 years to enjoy life and, yes, he did get to meet his grandchildren. My hope is that you will find something on this website that will motivate you to exercise more and have a longer and healthier life.
In this website I will show you how exercise will improve your life. I will show you exercises specifically for the activities you want to do. This is called Functional Fitness. If we just stick with a few basic principles, we can get in shape to do the things we want to do everyday. My target audience is the folks who are experiencing a reduction in mobility but who want to keep going and live a full life.
Credibility
I am not an exercise physiologist or a personal trainer. But I do have a Ph.D. in neurobiology and psychology and I have conducted research at Harvard Medical School. With this background and my personal experience of more than 65 years of exercise, I am able to read and evaluate basic and applied research in the area of exercise physiology and training. I have also learned over the years that you can learn a lot by asking questions and listening to what the experts have to say. The information I put on this website will have to meet one basic criterion. It has to be based on science. If I can’t find credible research on a topic or an expert who will confirm what I am saying, then I won’t waste your time talking about it.
Are you ready to improve your life? Let’s get moving!
